One Hilton-sponsored card is the American Express Hilton Surpass card.  It has a $75 annual fee.  There is usually a sign up bonus offered with the card; the bonus varies from 60,000-100,000 Honors points, which are credited to your account after you spend a certain amount within the first 3 months of card membership.

One of our favorite hotel credit cards is the IHG Rewards Club Select Credit Card from Chase, which is affiliated with the InterContinental Hotel Group (IHG) family of hotels including Holiday Inn, Crowne Plaza, Candlewood Suites, and other hotel brands.  If you do a lot of paid travel with stays at IHG properties, you can really enhance your paid and free stays with this card.  The card is currently issued as a MasterCard, with a $49 annual fee (the fee for which is currently waived for the first year).… Read the rest

Credit Cards, Disney Gift Cards

One of our favorite ways to pay for our trips is through the use of Disney Gift Cards.  We always try to buy these at a discount using various strategies.  We used to heavily use the Target Gift Card Stacking Strategy until it died over the summer.  Since that time, we’ve been reduced to getting just a 5% discount, either through cash back (with the Target Red Card) or with Chase Ultimate Reward Points that we can use for free airline flights or hotel rooms.

Luckily, we follow Shawn Coomer at Miles To Memories.  Shawn is always posting great American Express offer links.  American Express offers are special deals that you can link to your American Express cards.  The deals are like coupons, but they are electronic and are triggered when you purchase a certain amount from select merchants.

On October 29th, Shawn posted that there was a Sam’s Club deal that was valid on gift card purchases.  With this deal, you could get a 20% credit on any purchase up to $1250 (up to $250 in savings).   Since most of the gift cards at Sam’s Club are already discounted by about 5%, this additional credit could provide a huge savings!  I quickly loaded up the American Express mobile app on my phone to see if I had the offer linked to any of my cards.  I found it linked to my SPG card.… Read the rest

We have a pretty good supply of credit cards we can use to earn points.  We always try to spend in the bonus categories on the cards that make the most sense.  (Note, when mentioning the number of points earned in each category, that is for each dollar spent.)  Here are some of our main categories that we spend money in:

Disney Gift Cards – We use a Chase Ink card to buy Target Gift Cards at Staples in order to Stack onto the Target 5% off.… Read the rest

Upcoming Card Selection

With the recent draw down in our hotel and airline accounts, we need a plan to replenish them.  We have our travel plans set until December of 2017, so we have time to build our supply back up.  We plan to continue spending on the credit cards we have right now in order to maximize their bonus categories. … Read the rest

It has been a quiet month here at Back To The Mouse.  What have we been spending our time doing?  We took a few trips, but basically have been earning and burning our airline and hotel miles.

Here is what we earned since the beginning of 2016:

SPG  – We both signed up for the American Express Starwood Preferred Guest cards when the sign up bonus went to 35,000 points. … Read the rest
