Disney Cruise

We were very excited to get on board the Disney Dream as this was our first time on the ship.  As they called our boarding group, we walked through the giant Mickey ears and had our Keys to the World cards swiped for the first time on this cruise.  We skipped the initial photo since we never buy the photos on board.

One of our favorite things about taking a Disney cruise is when they announce your party to the ship.  It feels like that is the moment your vacation really begins (almost like driving through the Walt Disney World sign)!  After they announced our names, we took some pictures in the lobby and decided to head off for some lunch.… Read the rest

Disney Cruise, Travel

The travel day for our Disney Dream cruise finally arrived!  We had decided to leave really early so that we could join our friends at the airport.  We could easily kill time in the Admirals Club lounge at Reagan National Airport.  We were going to get the girls from school around noon, then leave for the airport at 12:30, which should get us there at 1:00 pm.  The flight didn’t leave until 3:00 pm, so we should have plenty of time to get lunch as well.

American Airlines Flight from Reagan National to Orlando

I thought we were getting a jump on the trip when we picked the kids up at 11:30 am.  But, that quickly went sideways.  Our youngest daughter had a slight medical issue that was going to require a trip to the doctor for some medication.  Nancy took her and headed off to the urgent care, hoping that we would be able to make it on time.  My wife was in and out of the urgent care in about an hour and a half, but that put us at about 1:15 pm.  We still had to get her prescription filled and get to the airport.  We loaded everybody in the car and headed to the drugstore.  Nancy ran into the drug store and quickly explained our issue.  It still took them a little bit to put the prescription together, but they definitely went above and beyond to speed us on our way.  We left the drug store around 1:45 pm and drove like crazy to get to Reagan National.  We parked in the daily parking and went inside.  We found a relatively empty check-in line and checked our bags.  Thankfully, we have TSA Precheck, which got us through security in less than 5 minutes.  We arrived at the gate just as boarding started.  Thankfully, our friends had grabbed us lunch so we got a chance to eat before boarding.  They were life savers!… Read the rest

Disney Cruise Line’s private island, Castaway Cay, is a small slice of paradise in the Caribbean!  On this slice of paradise, Disney added a private getaway where you can escape the crowds of people that you’ve been traveling with on your cruise ship.  These private getaways are called Cabanas and they are small cabins placed on a private sections of the family beach and the adult beach.  There are twenty regular and one large sized Cabanas on the family beach.  We will only be talking about the Cabanas on the family beach as we have never experienced the ones on the adult beach.… Read the rest

During our recent Star Wars At Sea Cruise onboard the Disney Fantasy, we got to experience the Chocolate and Liquor Tasting.

We signed up for the Chocolate and Liquor Tasting at the same time that we signed up for the mixology class.  I don’t remember the exact price of the tasting, but it wasn’t much more than the mixology class.  The class was held in Ooh La La Lounge, which is the champagne bar , so we headed there at 12:15 pm for our class.

We had gotten to the club a few minutes before the tasting so we could look around.  We had never been in Ooh La La, so this was new for us.  I don’t know how to describe the club other than to say it was very French.  We took some pictures of the club prior to the tasting.  I don’t know if I would return to the club to get a drink, mainly because I’m not a huge fan of champagne

The bartender leading the class came around to collect our tickets for the tasting.  Each table had two complete setups for the class already prepared.  There were four glasses along with an assortment of chocolate and/or cheese.… Read the rest

Here are some pictures of the Castaway Club Gifts we have received over the years (Note: We just received some updated pictures from a recent Disney Alaska Cruise.  We’ve added these pictures to the end of the article):

We recently went on the Disney Dream for a 3-Night Bahamian Cruise from Port Canaveral.  We stayed in room 7044, which is a Category 5C Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom with Verandah.  It is located on the forward (front) port (left)  side of the ship on Deck 7, just in front of the forward elevators.   The room was in a great location.  We only had to go up a few decks to get drinks and we were very close to the forward elevators.

Here are our pictures of the room!… Read the rest

During our recent 7 Night Eastern Caribbean Star Wars Day At Sea cruise on the Disney Fantasy, we decided to try Disney Cruise Line’s Onboard Airline Check-in.  This is a program that Disney Cruise Line has that allows you to receive your boarding pass and check your luggage for your return flight home while onboard the ship.

In order to participate in this program, you must purchase Disney Cruise Line ground transportation from the ship back to Orlando International Airport.  You must also sign up for the program.  I don’t know the deadline, but we signed up when we boarded the ship at the Port Terminal.  You must be flying from the Orlando Airport after 11:30 am on one of the following airlines: Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Jet Blue Airways, or United Airlines.… Read the rest

Disney Cruise, Shopping, Travel

Disney cruises are one of our favorite ways to vacation.  One of the few issues we have experienced while on the ship (and travel in general) is how to keep all of our electronic devices charged up.  As a family of four, we have a multitude of cell phones, iPads, and Kindles that need a recharge.  We used to travel with a bag full of wall chargers and cables that went everywhere.  This was a real problem once we boarded the cruise ship, since there are a limited number of wall plugs available.… Read the rest
