Dream Cruise – Part 4 – Nassau

Day 2
Day 2

The day started early with the Disney Dream pulling into Nassau.  We’ve been to Nassau on previous cruises, but we had always treated it like a sea day and stayed on the ship.  Because we were traveling with friends, we came up with a new approach.  Nancy and our oldest daughter wanted to get off the ship and walk around with our friends, while I would stay on the ship with our youngest daughter.

We did manage to grab some pictures of the pier area.  There are usually a couple of cruise ships parked here everyday.

Atlantis is right across the way, but we’ve never managed to visit.  We have friends who have been there to enjoy the water park and they recommended it.  We might eventually get around to going there one day.

After we had breakfast, our groups split up.  Our youngest and I went up to play mini-golf, which is located on the after portion of the Dream.  We played all nine holes (and took some more pictures).  The clubs, balls, and score cards are available and are included in the cruise fare.

After a competitive game of mini-golf (we refuse to discuss who won), we decided to try a game of Midship Detective Agency.  Midship Detective Agency is a free game that can be played by going around the ship to a series of portals.  The portals give you clues to help you solve a mystery.  Once you have received enough clues, you can solve the game by guessing the answer.  In order to start playing, you need to go to one of the starting portals and collect a map and a key card.  It will then send you off to a portal to get your first clue.

The portals are all located in front of these emblems that are on the floor.

Here is an example of one of the portals.  The picture will fade if you stand near the emblem and hold up your key card.

This small door on Deck 5 is part of the game as well.  I won’t spoil any parts of it though.

While we were busy on the putting green and solving the Midship Detective Agency, the other members of our party decided to head off the ship and explore the port city of Nassau.   They departed the ship, scanning their Key To the World cards as they left the ship.  They walked towards Festival Place, stopping to take some pictures of the ship.

They walked through the welcome portal and entered Nassau.  Upon exiting the pier area, there were a number of aggressive vendors offering taxi rides, hair braids, and various excursions.  They ignored the solicitations and continued on their way.

Once they passed the vendors, they started looking for various souvenirs among the shops.  They visited the Straw Market, a rum shop, a local shop which made soaps and candles, and made a stop in one of our favorite Caribbean stores, Pirana Joe

After they had explored Nassau, they headed back to the ship so the adults could participate in the Mixology class.  Since we had just done the Mixology class a few weeks ago during out Fantasy cruise, I was ready this time.  I had vowed to pace myself and not finish all my drinks.  We headed down to O’Gills for the class.  The setup for this class was similar to the previous one, except the drinks were made in front of the bar instead of behind them.  We made the same sort of drinks, with some slight variations.

As you can see, while I did hold back on my consumption of alcohol, I made sure not to short people on theirs!  Our friends really enjoyed the class.  The dynamics of this class were different than the last one we did as there were more small groups of people as opposed to one large group.  I think it ended up a bit quieter, but still just as fun.

After the class, we decided to walk off some of our alcohol as the ship started pulling out of the port.  We really like Deck 4, even when we have our own veranda.

We made sure that we captured photos of one of our favorite light houses.

Tonight’s show was Villains Tonight, which we were eager to see  because we had never seen it.  I thought the show was a bit odd, mainly just a way to toss together different Disney songs.  I like Disney songs, so it wasn’t a bad mix, just a bit dark.  The girls didn’t seem to mind.

Tonight was also Pirate Night, so we headed back to our room before dinner to put on our pirate gear.  We had purchased pirate hats a number of years ago for our Disney cruises with pirate night.  We then headed off to Royal Palace for dinner.  We did stop to take this picture of the chandelier in the atrium.

This trip will go down as the one trip I neglected to take pictures of anything food related.  I also didn’t get any pictures of the dining room, which was odd.  I did manage to get pictures of dessert, but that was pretty much it.  I got the Grand Marnier Souffle, which is my all time favorite Disney Cruise dessert.  I missed it on our Fantasy Cruise.

We actually made an early evening of it, probably as a result of Mixology.  As we were passing through pool area, we noticed they were having a dance party.  Nancy had met the DJ earlier in the day and he had invited her to come to the party, he was DJ Wendell!  He was definitely getting the crowd moving, but it wasn’t enough to keep us from heading to bed.
