California Adventure – Part 5, Day 3

06-30-2016_09-15-26

Our day began with a shortcut.  We walked over to California Adventure and entered the park.  We grabbed FastPasses for Radiator Springs Racers, then left the park.  We had a date for breakfast with one of our youngest daughter’s favorite characters, Meeko!  You can meet Meeko and friends at Chip ‘n Dale’s Critter Breakfast at Storytellers Cafe at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel.  Meeko appears with Chip, Dale, Koda, and Kenai (characters from Brother Bear).  This is the only place we’ve found where Meeko makes a regular appearance.  The food is pretty much standard for a Disney breakfast buffet: the quality is fine, but somewhat overpriced.  We stopped doing most breakfast buffets a long time ago, but make time for this one.

Our older daughter didn’t have much interest in the character breakfast, so she choose to stay in California Adventure.  She grabbed some breakfast from a cart and spent some time soaking up the atmosphere.  We returned to the park after breakfast and met up in time for our Radiator Springs Racers FastPasses.  We also went for a spin on Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree before heading off to A Bug’s Land!  A Bug’s Land is really set up for younger kids, but we love it.  I think the theming in A Bug’s Land is as good as Cars Land.  The girls rode the bumper cars and we all rode Flik’s Flyers.

We spent the rest of the afternoon walking around, snacking, and riding rides.  We made sure to catch the new Soarin film as well.  I don’t know if I like it more than the previous one.  I don’t mind seeing Disney attractions change, but the changes for this version seemed a bit odd.  I think the computer generated video was a bit much in some of the segments, especially considering all the places that they could have actually filmed.   I am hopeful based upon the way the segments look that they can randomize the ride at some point; I would like it to be more like Star Tours in that respect.  I didn’t like how the projection isn’t correct unless you are sitting right in the center of the ride (I’m looking at you, bent Eiffel Tower).  Also, I missed the smell of the oranges from the orange groves.   However, I was very glad they kept the pre-ride video with Patrick!

We also spent some time in the Redwood Creek Challenge Trail.  And by spending time, I mean I lost my younger one in there and it took me forever to find her again.  That place can swallow a kid up in no time at all.  It is really set up well and a lot of fun.  She really enjoyed the zip line as well as the activities to learn a Wilderness Explorer badge.

We had dinner at Carthay Circle, which was delicious.

We decided to walk around a bit after dinner and took a few pictures.  Then we headed back so we could be fresh for our last day at Disneyland!
