Last Minute Trip – Part 4 Epcot

Planning | Travel | Animal Kingdom | Epcot | Magic Kingdom | Hollywood Studios | Summary

The second day of our four day trip took us to our favorite park, Epcot!  We arrived in plenty of time for rope drop!  We had used our Tier One FastPass for Test Track, so we made our first stop of the day Soarin’.   We always try to get a ride in on both these rides!

After riding Soarin’, we headed over to Test Track to use our FastPasses.

The line was still short enough that we decided to go back through and ride using the single rider line.  After our second ride, we decided to ride Mission Space.  It was rumored that there was a soft opening of the new version of the Green (less intense) version of the ride.

Once we saw the opening video, we knew the ride had been upgraded to the new version.  The new version was a nice change of pace from the older version that we had ridden dozens of times.  The new version is very much like Soarin’, just from the perspective of space instead of closer to the Earth.

We then spent the rest of the morning going through Future World.  We rode Living with the Land, Journey into Imagination, and looked through the various shops, including Mouse Gear!

After a long visit to MouseGear, we headed into The World Showcase.  Our first stop was the Norway Pavilion.  We wanted to try the School Bread, we had heard a lot about it, but never tried it.  Once we got there, we saw cast members telling people that the Frozen ride had broken down.  Nancy went to get the School Bread and I decided to jump in the line for Frozen.  I figured it might open at some point, and this was our best chance to get to ride it without a FastPass or a long wait.  The School Bread was quickly consumed.  It reminded me of a Boston Cream doughnut with coconut.

After standing in line for about 20 minutes, the ride opened!  We waited another 20 minutes to go through the standby line (the FastPass holders had started to return) and we were on our way.

While the ride had good animatronics, I don’t know if it was an improvement over Maelstrom.  I suppose all things have to change though.  It was nice to see Disney changing an existing ride in an attempt to improve it.  After we got off the ride, we decided to grab some lunch at La Cantina de San Angel, which is the waterside cafe in the Mexican Pavilion area.

Our youngest daughter wanted to play Agent P while we walked around the World Showcase, so we went to the kiosk to get set up.  She decided to use her own phone to play instead of the one they hand out.

Our first stop on the World Showcase was the Canada Pavilion.  We were searching for a place where we can watch the New Year’s Eve fireworks on a future trip and we thought we might find something in Canada.  Unfortunately, the place we thought might work isn’t going to.

We also made sure to make a stop in France to get some Macarons, in addition to some gelato!

We continued around the World Showcase, looking through all the pavilions and shops and playing Agent P.  One of our favorite pavilions is Morocco, but there is no Agent P adventure there!

We stopped into the Japanese Pavilion to visit the Mitsukoshi store.  The ladies all went in to shop while I camped out a bit to rest.  The store is really interesting, but I needed to get off my feet.

We continued on through the rest of the pavilions in the World Showcase.

At the China pavilion, we went inside to see the Shanghai Disneyland exhibit.  Based on the designs we saw, the park looks really impressive!

We finished our exploration of the World Showcase before heading back to the Land Pavilion for dinner at Sunshine Seasons.  We really think Sunshine Seasons might be one of the best quick service locations in the parks for the wide range of quality choices that are available.

After dinner, we were all pretty tired, so we headed back out of the park to return to the hotel room.
