Ovation of the Seas
Ovation of the Seas

One of the worst aspects of any cruise vacation is the fact that you actually have to pay your final bill! (Just kidding). If you’ve never cruised with Royal Caribbean before, I wanted to share exactly what that final Guest Account Summary will look like once you receive it.  This final statement is from our Ovation of the Seas cruise that we took to Alaska. It was waiting for us the morning of disembarkation. You can also go to Guest Services at any point on the cruise to get a printed version of it (for charges up to that point).  read more

Disembarkation
Disembarkation

The morning of disembarkation is usually very sad.  Everyone plans their flights so they can leave the ship and head directly to the airport, giving themselves an hour or so of cushion to make their flights.  We planned our flights so we had as much time in San Juan today as possible.  We got up at 7 am to finish packing the stateroom and then we took our bags with us to Tiana’s for breakfast.  read more

Sunrise over Dulles
Sunrise over Dulles

Time passed quickly as we waited for our travel day to arrive.  The travel itself was actually pretty anti-climatic.  The outbound flight for our trip left from Dulles airport.  We had arranged for a cab to pick us up at 6:00 am and drop us at Dulles.  We dropped our bags off and headed to the TSA Precheck line.  We had packed our carry on bags fairly full, mainly because we were sneaking Christmas presents on for our girls.  Of course, our carry on bags got pulled aside for additional screening.  Luckily, the girls cleared without issue and we shooed them away while TSA looked through the bag.  Nancy was able to tell the agent about the gifts and he discreetly searched the bag without revealing to the girls what the presents were.  After we reassembled the bags, we were on our way to the gate. read more

Disney cruises are one of our favorite ways to vacation.  One of the few issues we have experienced while on the ship (and travel in general) is how to keep all of our electronic devices charged up.  As a family of four, we have a multitude of cell phones, iPads, and Kindles that need a recharge.  We used to travel with a bag full of wall chargers and cables that went everywhere.  This was a real problem once we boarded the cruise ship, since there are a limited number of wall plugs available. read more

Credit Cards, Shopping

There are two Disney branded credit cards offered by Chase.  The first is the Disney Premier Visa Card that has a $49 annual fee.  It earns 2% at gas stations, grocery stores, restaurants and most Disney locations and 1% everywhere else.  The other is the Disney Rewards Visa Card that earns 1% on all purchases, but has no annual fee. read more
