Hello! This is an article about the 12 year old perspective of the Edge. The Edge is the Disney Cruise Line club for kids from 11 to 14. Normally, around the time you turn 11, you just want to go to the Edge, and not hang around the Oceaneer Club and Oceaneer Lab as much. This is a guide about how the Edge works, because it is slightly different from the Club and Lab.
First, the location of the Edge is different on the various ships. On the Magic and Wonder, the Edge is located at Deck 9 midship. All the midship elevators on the Magic and Wonder will take you right to Deck 9. On the Fantasy and Dream, the Edge is located at Deck 13 midship in the funnel. Three elevators terminate at Deck 12, then you can take a set of stairs up to the Edge. One of the elevators will actually take you straight up to the Edge on Deck 13.
On the first day, you can go to the Edge by yourself or with your family during open house to get yourself registered. Talk with a counselor to get registered. Once you are registered, you will get a sticker that says Edge on your Key to the World card. You MUST keep the sticker on the card. I’ll explain why in a second.
You’ll notice being in the Edge is VERY different from the Club or Lab. You’re allowed to come and go as you please. You don’t need to sign in. However, to make sure no one who isn’t 11 – 14 comes and hangs out when they aren’t supposed to, about once every hour the counselors will check the Key to the World cards to see if everyone has the sticker. If you don’t, you’ll be asked to leave. The only exception to this is during open house, when anybody can come into the Edge.
Another thing to keep in mind is that they won’t serve you lunch or dinner at the Edge, as the Club and Lab will. I know when I was on the Fantasy with my friends, we often went down to Cabanas, Flo’s Café, Luigi’s Pizza, Tow Mater’s Grill, and Filmore’s Favorites for lunch. Because you are allowed to go and get food, the Dream and Fantasy have a special table just for food and drinks.
Something I’ve mentioned is friends. When you’re on the ship, I can honestly say you will probably make some great friends. I’ve made such great friends on the cruise, almost all that I’ve kept in touch with. Because of all of the freedom you get in the Edge, you can do fun activities around the ship with your friends, doing Edge activities or not. The cruise is fun by itself, but with the new friends you can make, it elevates the cruise by one. One thing I will say: GO TO THE EDGE ON THE FIRST NIGHT. During ice breakers, you get to meet lots of people and that means you can have a friend through out the cruise.
There are a lot of fun activities that take place in the Edge. My personal favorite, along with many other people, is called Brains and Brawn. You go around the ship solving puzzles that lead you to the next spot and try to be the first group back to the Edge. You have Marshmallow Olympics, Scavenger Hunt, Bingo, and SO much more! You won’t ever want to leave!
That’s all I have to say for the Edge! See ya at the Edge real soon!
