We started Christmas day by ordering room service. We knew the girls wouldn’t be interested in getting up early since they had both stayed out late at the clubs the night before. While they were sleeping, I took their gift coupons to the lobby to try to retrieve their gifts. The cruise staff needed their Key to the World cards, so I had to head back to the room to get them.

It was finally time to get on board our Very Merrytime Cruise on the Disney Magic. After parking our car in the lot at the Port of Miami, we headed over to where the porters were collecting bags. The only issue was that we were very early. We arrive at the port about 10 am or so and the ships were still discharging passengers. I sent Nancy and the girls to the line while I looked for a porter.
The travel for this cruise was different than our normal cruises. We normally fly into the departure port for our cruises. In this case, since the cruise was a part of our Christmas Trip to Walt Disney World, we drove our rental car. We left the Magic Kingdom parking lot around 1 pm on December 23 and started driving south. I didn’t drive on the Florida Toll Road (which was a mistake) and instead made our way to Interstate 95 and headed south.
I initially covered the planning for the cruise in our post about our 2017 Christmas trip, but I’ll summarize it again here. In May 2016, Disney Cruise Line had just announced the fall/winter sailings for 2017. After scanning through offerings, I noticed a 5-Night Western Caribbean sailing out of Miami on the Magic. It would leave on December 24, 2017. The prices were really high, but that’s to be expected with a holiday cruise. We had a placeholder available from our Spring Break 2016 sailing, but it appeared that this cruise was blocked out from receiving the 10% discount. This left us having to pay full price for the cruise if we wanted to take it. The itinerary was one we have done a few times before. Departing Miami, there would be a sea day, followed by a stop in Cozumel. The sailing would then have another sea day followed by a stop at Castaway Cay, then return to Miami.
Here are our pictures of the Vibe teenage club for ages 14-17 on the Disney Magic from our Very Merrytime Christmas cruise in December 2017. The club was updated in March 2018 to an urban loft theme.
Our friends Doug (from Rope Drop Radio) and Michelle McKnight (our favorite travel agent) recently went on the Disney Dream for a 3-Night Bahamian Cruise from Port Canaveral. They stayed in room 6668, which is a Category 8D Deluxe Family Oceanview Stateroom. It is located on the aft (rear) starboard (right) side of the ship on Deck 6, behind the aft elevators. The room has an enormous porthole window that you can actually sit in! Some other features of the room include a round tub and a Murphy bed so you can sleep five in the room.
