Today was our last sea day on our cruise. We still hand one more day at Castaway Cay, but today was a day for relaxing. We started the day off very late with breakfast at Cabanas. After we ate, the girls went off to their clubs. Nancy and I headed up to Satellite Falls to read and relax. We were treated to a nice rainbow off in the distance!
After a while up on the sun deck, we headed back to the room to change to get ready for two of our favorite events – Jack Jack’s Diaper Dash and the Character Dance Party! The Diaper Dash is held in the main atrium and is a crawling baby race! The babies get to race for glory against each other. We picked an overhead perch to watch all the activity.
The entertainment staff had setup the atrium for the event!
It didn’t take too long before the racers arrived from all corners of the ship. Spectators are encouraged to cheer and clap for their favorite racers. Parents can encourage their racers with whatever they would like (food, toys, mother, etc). The participants are only allowed to crawl. If they rise up and take steps, they are disqualified. The babies were lined up and the race was started.
This was a slow moving race despite the parental encouragement going on. The participants lacked focus.
Eventually the baby in the first row really got in gear and started moving down the course.
She crossed the line first and there was a huge roar from the crowd! The winner was given a medal and the rest of the participants got prized bibs.
Our next favorite cruise activity after the Diaper Dash is the Character Dance Party, which came up right after the Diaper Dash. The characters show up and lead the audience through some outstanding dance moves. Each character takes a turn on the stage while the rest of the characters enter the audience to dance with the audience. The music is generally semi-current, family friendly pop songs.
The dance party went on for about twenty minutes, and then the gang headed out.
After the character dance party, Nancy and I eventually made our way to the cooking demonstration “Anyone Can Cook”. Today’s demonstration was for Apple Strudel. We were pretty far back from the stage, so we had a little bit of a problem seeing the demonstration. The recipe was fairly complex, I don’t think I could ever make it at home. The chef described the types of apples to use and the stretching of the dough. It was interesting to listen and watch him make the dessert. Our server, Yousef, was helping out with the demonstration and delivered the tastings to all the tables.
After the demonstration, I headed back to Satellite Falls to read while Nancy went to the room to start some preliminary packing. She doesn’t like to leave it all for the last night of the cruise and we were going to be at Castaway Cay for most of the day.
Tonight, the adults were going to have dinner at Remy. Since we would be done around 8:15 or so, we planned to meet the girls in Royal Court after and sit with them while they ate dinner. Nancy and I met our friends in the Meridian Bar after checking in at the desk.
Remy now costs $125 per adult, plus gratuity. At the time of this cruise, it was $95 per person. We were brought to our table and offered a complementary cocktail, “The Colette”. The Colette is a Champagne cocktail that is made table side for you. Colette is the female chef from the movie “Ratatouille”, which is the theme for the restaurant.
The menu offers two different multi-course meal experiences or you can order a la carte from three different choices.
Three of us selected the Gout and Nancy selected the Saveur with a modification because of her lobster allergy. The meal started with bread service. I didn’t get a picture of the bread but I got one of the butter!
We were then brought two Amuse-Bouche to cleanse our palettes.
Here is our first course consisting of the Tomate and Langoustine.
Here is the second course consisting of Celeri and Halibut.
The third course consisted of Fletan and Pork.
The fourth course consisted of the Pigeon and the Kobe Beef.
The dessert courses were brought consisting of the Fraise and the Peruvian Chocolate.
After five courses, the cheese selection was brought out. While we were getting full, we wanted to make sure we got the full experience, so we gave it a try. We let the waiter select the cheese and accoutrements.
After we were completely full, they brought another round of desserts. We tried a little bit of each, but eventually had it boxed up to share with the girls, along with some Lollipops.
We left Remy feeling very full. We headed to Royal Court to spend time with the girls while they finished their dinner. Tonight’s menu was the Captain’s Gala Menu. After dinner, the girls went off to their clubs and we retired to the room.
Today had been a lazy and relaxing sea day, topped off with a wonderful dining experience at Remy. Tomorrow would be a fun day in the sun at Castaway Cay!
