We were very excited to get on board the Disney Dream as this was our first time on the ship. As they called our boarding group, we walked through the giant Mickey ears and had our Keys to the World cards swiped for the first time on this cruise. We skipped the initial photo since we never buy the photos on board.
One of our favorite things about taking a Disney cruise is when they announce your party to the ship. It feels like that is the moment your vacation really begins (almost like driving through the Walt Disney World sign)! After they announced our names, we took some pictures in the lobby and decided to head off for some lunch.
After lunch, we immediately headed to the night club area to sign up for the Mixology class. After my last disastrous encounter with the class, I was determined to take this one slowly and pace myself. We went through a couple of the night clubs to see how they differ from the ones on the Fantasy.
Another place we were excited to explore was Vanellope’s Sweets and Treats Shop! There was nothing like it on the other three ships (that has since changed with the refurbishment of the Fantasy). We immediately strolled in and checked it out.
We found fudge and cookies here.
Macaroons and cupcakes were in this display case. We eventually sampled some of both and they were delicious. In fact, I think we came back for Macaroons at least twice a day while we were on board.
I actually had this cupcake and it was very good.
Decorative gumballs and prepackaged treats!
We referred to this as the wall of candy. I don’t think we got anything from here while we were on board.
This was the gelato section! We had the gelato at least twice and loved it. It can be hard to justify paying for ice cream when there is free soft serve on board, but it was definitely an upgrade over the soft serve.
There were props in the the shop as well, which all the kids were climbing over in order to get pictures.
After visiting Vanellope’s, we went off to check out all the kids clubs. This was our first look at the Star Wars area in the Oceaneer’s Lab on the Dream. We really liked that portion of the space, but for the most part, we found it very similar to the Fantasy. The Fantasy has since been updated during a refurbishment, so we will have to check that area out again once we return to the Fantasy. We also went and visited the Edge and the Vibe. We found these spaces very similar to the Fantasy as well.
Our next area of exploration was the adult sections! The adult section (not including the night clubs and bars) are located all the way forward on the ship.
We made sure to stop by Satellite Falls as well. This area is on the top Deck all the way forward. It has a small pool that you can sit in, as well as lots of loungers for relaxing. There are a number of them in the shade (as well as ones in the sun). Nancy and I really enjoy this area of the ship when the kids are off in their clubs.
We stopped by the main pool as well to get a few pictures. The Dream has the AquaDuck just like the Fantasy does. There are two pools in this area, one is deeper than the other. There is also Nemo’s Reef, which is a water play area for younger cruisers.
It was getting close 1:30 pm at this point, so we headed to check out our room. We were in stateroom 7004, which I discussed previously in another post. We got back together with our friends and continued our walk around the ship. After walking all over the ship and playing tour guide for our friends, I really fell down on the job. I didn’t take any pictures of dinner or anything else the rest of the night. We had late dinner, so we weren’t in a hurry to do anything. We did go up to watch the sail away party, then got ready for the show.
At least our friends were smart enough to take pictures of their towel animals!
