While on a recent Royal Caribbean cruise on board the Ovation of the Seas, we got the opportunity to try Jamie’s Italian. Jamie’s Italian is a specialty upgrade restaurant found onboard a number of Royal Caribbean ships. The upgrade is $35 per person. You can also visit the restaurant as part of a dining package, which is what we did.
Nancy was excited to try Jamie’s Italian because she is a fan of Jamie Oliver and his series of cookbooks.
The restaurant decore is more casual than Chops or Wonderland. It is set up with large industrial-like tables with mismatched chairs. The waiters are dressed rather casually in jeans and button down shirts. There is also a display of Jamie Oliver’s cookbooks along one wall.
The menu features a large number of appetizers, including their famous antipasto planks. We decided against getting one though, because we didn’t want to fill up on starters. We did end up ordering the ultimate garlic bread, calamari, and bruschetta. We really liked the ultimate garlic bread and later in the cruise we discovered they had it on the Windjammer buffet at night.
The entree offerings are quite extensive, with a mix of pasta and other dishes. Nancy had heard that the truffle tagliatelle was excellent. She and my older daughter ended up ordering that.
I tried three smaller portions, the Lasagne, the Truffle Tagliatelle, and the Tagliatelle Bolognese.
My younger daughter decided on the Mushroom Risotto.
After eating our wonderful entrees, we were quite stuffed. However, our family motto is “there’s always room for dessert.” We decided to try the Raspberry Ripple Pavlova (meringue covered in raspberries) and the Tiramisu. Both were outstanding.
We really enjoyed the casual atmosphere and awesome food at Jamie’s. It will be one of our “must do’s” whenever we are on board a Royal Caribbean ship!
