Today was Day 5 of our cruise, which brought us to the beautiful island of St. Thomas, one of the U.S. Virgin Islands. We had visited St. Thomas on a previous cruise on the Fantasy and we really liked it.
We knew today was going to be a lazy day because we canceled our excursion for the day. We decided to get up late and take a tour of the ship to get pictures. We were hoping it would be mostly empty and it was.
After walking around the ship for a bit, we decided to get off to have lunch. We weren’t wandering very far, just a few minutes off the ship.
On our prior trip to St. Thomas, Nancy had noticed a place called the Fresh Bistro, which seemed like a good option for lunch. We headed into the small section of shops and restaurants that are right near the harbor. The Fresh Bistro had their sign out, which definitely caused some laughs.
We were seated right away and got a nice table right by the water. We ordered something to drink and a guacamole appetizer. The guacamole serving was huge and really good.
Nancy ordered the grilled mahi mahi tacos and I ordered the Grilled Honey Lime Chicken sandwich. Nancy said the tacos were really good. The sandwich was good, but had a lot going on with it. Probably a few too many toppings on it.
The special dessert for the day was ice cream made fresh in the restaurant, which we all decided to try. It was outstanding. Overall, the food was really good, but it was definitely expensive. I think a lot of the price has to do with location and proximity of all the cruise ship passengers. I probably wouldn’t go to this place again if it was back home because of price, but the food was good.
We returned to the ship and the girls went off to their clubs. Nancy and I headed up to Satellite Falls to enjoy some quiet reading time. The weather was fantastic!
After a few hours of relaxing, Nancy and I went to get some coffee from Vista Cafe. While we were there, the Family Dance Party started up. Princesses Cinderella, Tiana, and Belle came out to kick the party off. Normally, we wouldn’t have stopped at all for the dance party. It really isn’t our thing, but something about it was mesmerizing. The DJ was playing fantastic music and getting everyone involved. Nancy and I stayed to watch a large portion of the party and really enjoyed it.
As we were walking away from the party, we had this encounter near the elevators:
We left the party and headed outside to get a picture of the sunset. We also got to see some of the other islands in the vicinity, including what I think was Puerto Rico, one of our future vacation spots!
Dinner tonight was in Enchanted Garden. This restaurant is located mid-ship, Deck 2 on the Fantasy. Our table was located towards the center. Tonight’s menu was the Captain’s Gala Menu (This is a link to the Disney Cruise Line Blog, which has fantastic information about all things Disney Cruise Line).
I ordered the marinated shrimp appetizer and Nancy got the aged prosciutto. Both were wonderful!
One of the girls ordered the vegetarian option, which I think was some sort of curry. She said it was very good. I ordered the pork and Nancy got the venison. Both were delicious. I normally order the beef entree since I’m not a huge fan of seafood. I’m not allergic, but the taste generally doesn’t appeal to me. So, most cruises turn into a beef fest, which I was getting a bit tired of. I decided to try to get something other than the beef option, even if it didn’t appeal to me at first. This ended up really working out well on this cruise as I found some other dishes that I enjoyed.
Following dinner, the girls went off to their clubs while we headed for the lobby. There was an announcement that unexpected visitors were arriving in the atrium any minute. We headed there and waited. (Interesting side note, while waiting for the visitors we were googling the special speaker for Star Wars At Sea Day, Leland Chee. A lady behind us noticed and started laughing. Turns out, Leland Chee is her husband. We explained we were going to his talk tomorrow and she told us he was really nervous).
Soon after, our visitors arrived. The ship was being taken over. The Storm Troopers walked around the gathered cruisers, examining everyone, while Kylo Ren provided oversight from the balcony. This went on for about 10-15 minutes, then they left. It was a bit odd. I honestly expected something more to happen.
Nancy and I went off to Skyline Lounge for a late drink. We had taken the mixology class here earlier in the cruise and thought we would return for a martini. We ordered two different ones. One was the El Conquistador, which included strawberries, basil, and pepper. I thought it would be refreshing with a hint of pepper. It was more like drinking pepper with a hint of strawberry. I personally found it to be undrinkable.
The other drink we ordered was the St. Pete’s Sling. It was a much more enjoyable drink and we managed to finish it.
We returned to the room and found the navigator for the next day along with a sea turtle towel animal.
Today had been a down day for us. We had canceled our excursion, but it allowed us to catch up on our sleep. We spent the morning (and part of the afternoon) enjoying a mostly empty ship. Tomorrow was going to be exciting with the official Star Wars Day At Sea!
