Royal Caribbean
08-14-2019 Alaska Cruise, Part 10: Sea Day
Today started out really rough as we entered the Pacific Ocean again. There were lots of waves and wind and the boat was really rolling. I got up and headed to the Solarium to bring coffee back to the room. Nancy decided she wasn’t going anywhere anytime soon, so the girls and I got up and headed out.
08-14-2019 Alaska Cruise, Part 9: Endicott Arm & Dawes Glacier
Today was one of the best days of the cruise: the visit to Endicott Arm and Dawes Glacier. During our previous trip to Alaska, we got to see Tracy Arm and Sawyer Glacier. The entry into the Arm started early this morning, at 7 am. We were up early and had placed our room service order the evening before. While we waited for breakfast, we went outside to enjoy the view from the balcony.
Royal Caribbean – Jamie’s Italian
While on a recent Royal Caribbean cruise on board the Ovation of the Seas, we got the opportunity to try Jamie’s Italian. Jamie’s Italian is a specialty upgrade restaurant found onboard a number of Royal Caribbean ships. The upgrade is $35 per person. You can also visit the restaurant as part of a dining package, which is what we did.
Comparing Royal Caribbean and Disney Cruise Line
In this post, we want to talk about some of the differences we experienced between a Royal Caribbean (RC) cruise and our Disney Cruise Line (DCL) cruises. We’ll try to go through various categories, but in some cases, we can’t do an apples to apples comparison.

08-14-2019 Alaska Cruise, Part 7: Juneau
Today was our day to visit Juneau, the capital of Alaska. The ship wouldn’t reach Juneau until noon, so we had some free time on our hands before we got there. I was up early and headed to the Solarium for some coffee. Everyone else was still in the room and asleep. I grabbed a cup and went to sit by the glass to take in the view. While I was watching, I saw a few pods of whales, including one Orca that decided to jump out of the water and make quite a splash!
Royal Caribbean Ovation of the Seas – Teen Club
During a recent August 2019 sailing on the Ovation of the Seas, we made a special trip to visit the Living Room, the club for 12-17 year olds. We made sure to go during open house when anyone of any age can visit. Otherwise, the club is strictly limited to 12 through 17 year olds.
Royal Caribbean – Port Valet: Onboard Airline Check-In
On a recent Royal Caribbean cruise, we got a letter in our cabin from Port Valet. This is a service offered by the Port of Seattle to check-in for your flight, receive your boarding passes, and have your luggage sent directly from outside your stateroom to your home airport. We didn’t take advantage of this service on our cruise (because we were staying an additional night in Seattle), but it sounds very similar to a service offered by Disney Cruise Line.
08-14-2019 Alaska Cruise, Part 6: Sea Day
Today was our first sea day of the cruise! Nancy got up early and went up one deck to the Solarium Cafe to get us some coffee. Once she returned we got everybody up and dressed. We then decided to head to the Windjammer for breakfast. Once we got there, it appeared that everyone else on the ship had the same idea. The buffet was nuts and we spent about ten minutes just looking for a table. Once we found a table (all the way in the back), we sent groups off to get food. The quality of the food was good and we enjoyed breakfast, but we definitely didn’t enjoy the crowds.
